Which Career Suits My BaZi Chart? How Fields Are Read, and When a Pivot Can Happen

A field suits your BaZi chart when its traditional element is the one your chart needs, and the work draws on ten gods your chart already holds strongly. The Eight reads thirteen fields on those two parts and groups them as Strong fit, Good fit, Mixed or Uphill, each with one short reason.

That is fit, not a forecast. Our engine tested at chance against 69,000 random charts, so nothing here claims to know where you will succeed. What a chart can name is the work that draws on what you carry, and the work that costs you more.

Cast your chart, and your own fields are waiting.

Which industry suits my chart?

Each of the thirteen fields carries a traditional element from the five-element industry mapping, 五行行业.

Element Fields
Metal Finance and banking, law and compliance, engineering and manufacturing
Wood Healthcare and medicine, education and research
Fire Technology and digital, media, marketing and the arts
Earth Property and construction, government and public service
Water Trading and investing, consulting and advisory, trade, logistics and travel
None Founding your own business

Two honest notes. This table is later practice, not classical rule. It is not in 《三命通會》 or any older text we can check, but grew up in modern teaching to carry the five elements into industries the classics never saw. And schools disagree on several rows. Medicine is Wood in most tables and Water in some. We use the common version and label it as tradition.

Founding a business has no element. What you found decides that, so your own chart sets the tone.

How is each field placed?

Two questions decide it.

Does the field's element help your chart? It is checked against your useful element, the one your chart most needs for balance, then against its favourable and unfavourable elements. Founding, with no element, sits in the middle here.

Does the work draw on what your chart holds? Every kind of work leans on particular ten gods. Finance draws first on Direct Wealth (正财), steady management of resources, then Direct Officer (正官), rank and rules. Law draws on Direct Officer and Direct Resource (正印). Healthcare and education draw on Direct Resource, care and learning. Technology and media draw on Hurting Officer (伤官), the urge to say it differently. Trading draws on Indirect Wealth (偏财), openings and deals, and Seven Killings (七杀), pressure. Founding draws on Rob Wealth (劫财), contest, and Indirect Wealth. The first god counts most, and work matching your career palace, the ten god your month stem forms with your Day Master, gains ground.

Together they give the group.

  • Strong fit. The element is what your chart needs and the work draws on gods it holds well.
  • Good fit. One part clearly helps and the other does not hold it back.
  • Mixed. Neither part is strong, or a helpful element meets work your chart barely holds.
  • Uphill. The element works against your chart's balance, so even work you do well costs more than it returns.

Each line on your fields names its element and god, and "How this works" sets out the method.

Why might finance be Uphill for a chart that loves money?

Take an illustrative chart. The Day Master is 丁, Yin Fire, a candle rather than a bonfire. The chart carries heavy Metal, and for Fire, Metal is wealth, since Fire works Metal as a smith works a blade. The Fire itself is thin. It needs Wood, the fuel that keeps the candle lit, so Wood is its useful element and Metal is unfavourable.

Healthcare, Wood, lands in Strong fit, and education, also Wood, in Good fit. Finance lands in Uphill, even though the chart handles money well. Its role reason is solid, because the chart holds plenty of Direct Wealth. The element is what pulls it down.

So this chart does love money. What it cannot comfortably do is live inside more Metal than it carries. Tradition calls this 财多身弱, wealth heavy and self weak. Its sibling for authority is 杀重身轻, pressure heavy and self light. The wealth is real. Carrying it alone is the strain.

That is why any field built on wealth or authority carries a capacity note. For a weaker Day Master it reads carry this inside a structure, an institution, platform or team that holds part of the weight. For a strong one it reads you can carry this under your own name. Check your side in strong or weak Day Master.

For the candle, the reading is not "avoid money work". It is "handle money inside an institution, and let a larger balance sheet hold the heat".

Which roles inside a field suit you?

Inside each well-suited field, your fields sort specific roles into the same four groups, read the same two ways. Healthcare shows how far apart they sit. General practice, midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine are Wood. Surgery and dentistry are Metal, the blade. Psychology is Water, and so is nursing in our table, though other tables put it under Wood. Aged care is Earth. No table names emergency medicine, so reading it as Fire, speed and heat, is our interpolation.

For the candle above, the Wood roles carry the element it needs, and surgery reads heavier though it is still medicine. Each role also carries one line from your own chart: your Day Master's nature, the element the work carries, framed by the five constants tradition ties to the elements (木仁 火礼 土信 金义 水智), and the ten god it draws on.

Careers that blend two fields carry half of each element. Healthcare finance is half Wood and half Metal, which is why, for the candle, it can land higher than finance alone. Health tech, medtech and biotech investing, cross-border private wealth, legal tech and family office advisory read the same way.

When could a career change happen?

The dated hinges are the decade handovers, 交运, when one ten-year luck pillar hands over to the next. Measure the gap from birth to the nearest solar term in the direction your decades run, and every three days counts as one year of age. The method is in when will my luck change.

Each decade then reads for work as one of four seasons. Rising lifts what your chart wants lifted. Pressing puts weight on a star your chart needs. Proving brings authority in without settling which way it runs. Building forces nothing, and is for the work itself.

Pivot decades are the ones where the kind of work your chart leans toward changes, say from money and deals toward rank and responsibility. That kind is read from the decade's branch, since the old texts weigh branch over stem (大運重地支). A handover weighs more at a corner turn of the cycle, at 換甲 when the stems roll from 癸 to 甲, or when the incoming decade clashes your career palace or day branch. A decade holding one year that clashes your day pillar is marked too. These rules are our interpolation from the texts, and none of them says what you will do.

A few years in each decade are marked. A harvest year combines with your chart. A storm year clashes with your core or runs against the decade, and comes with a door, a move you can choose. See yours at your pivots, and the place side at your places.

Plainly, an earlier version of this reading named decades when you would relocate or change platform. Tested against documented lives and random charts, it did no better than chance, slightly worse in fact, so we withdrew it. The reading now names when the ground under your work changes and what season it becomes. Whether a pressing season turns into a resignation, a promotion or a quiet year of holding steady is yours to decide.

What the reading cannot tell you

It cannot name a job title. What career is right for me explains why. Your eight characters were fixed at birth, and most job categories were not.

It cannot tell you whether you will succeed. Strong fit is not a promise and Uphill is not a warning. Uphill says the work costs more of you, and plenty of people do costly work superbly because they build around the cost.

It cannot see your market, training, debts or the people who rely on you, and those shape most careers.

What it can do is name what you already know. If finance has always paid you and drained you in the same breath, Uphill with a strong role reason explains that better than "I must be bad at this". Cast your chart, open your fields, and find the line that names what you already knew.
